Health Tip: Take Charge of Your Health
(HealthDay News) — Medical errors can happen to anyone, but there are things you can do to reduce your risk.
Here’s some advice from the American Academy of Family Physicians:
- If you’re able to choose the hospital, pick one with significant experience in performing the procedure that you’ll have done.
- At the time of discharge, talk to your doctor about your recovery at home. Ask about which medications you’ll take, and when it’s safe to resume normal activities.
- Make sure you fully understand the pending procedure. Bring a friend or family member to help if you need it.
- Ask any nurses or physicians if they have washed their hands before they touch you.
